The important feature of Participating Mail Box Offices is
that they are on the air for 24 hours per day – every day of the year. These
base stations need little, if any, operator attention as they operate in
automatic mode. What’s more, if ever needed in the absence of the SysOp, the
performance of PMBOs can be remotely controlled, with permission, by other nominated PMBOs
from any place in the world.
As soon as the two additional stations planned for Australia in Queensland and Tasmania, respectively, are on the air, Australasia (Australia and New Zealand combined), by then with a total of 7 stations would, after North America, be the best served area in the world. Mind you, the geographic area served by stations in Australia and New Zealand is huge. Apart from covering the Australian Continent and the Islands of New Zealand (with their rugged coasts lines and interiors) they also serve large areas of the Indian and Pacific Oceans and the many archipelago nations to their north.
