Winlink Welcomes A71BYQatar joins list of Winlink PMBOsAnother welcome edition to the list of Winlink PMBOs is in Qatar in the Middle East. It shows how progressive ham operators can thrive in an enabling environment that allows them to take part in Winlink's worldwide public service. The new station can be expected to contribute significantly to the safety and communication needs of recreational vessels and others in or near the Red Sea, North of Saudi Arabia and full coastal Arabian Sea area. Coverage would possibly extend to include the Indian Sub-continent, North Africa and the southern part of Europe, including the much traveled Mediterranean. Developments are in progress that will eventually improve further the coverage of the Indian Ocean, the South Pacific and Australia. The two New Zealand stations continue to provide excellent support to those cruisers who are transiting the Tasman Sea to visit that beautiful and friendly country and take advantage of the outstanding refitting facilities available there. If operators in a geographically small nation like Qatar can contribute than, no doubt, so can others that hold commanding geographic positions in other areas of the world. AussieWinlink expresses its admiration and gratitude to Jabor Hamed Al-Thani (A71BY); Abdul Rouf (VU3NAX) and Murali Dharan (VU3MUV) who are the system operators for this new Winlink PMBO. Their contribution is an outstanding example of the true international cooperation among amateur radio operators. We wish the operators and their station well. Below is the information that was released by www.winlink.org to its worldwide network of PMBOs: QUOTE:
