New PMBO in India A new Winlink PMBO is scheduled to come on the air in India. It will cover the Indian and Sri Lankan areas that were devastated by the Tsunami Disaster. The station will cover a large area in the triangle between West Australia, South Africa and the Middle East. February 10, 2005
 
Thailand For an unexplained reason the Thailand-based Winlink PMBO was down just when it was needed most - during the tsunami disaster. Fortunately, the recently established Winlink stations in Australia were able to provide extensive support. December 31, 2005

  •     MR 14 - 27 February 2003 -- Winlink helps in locating stolen yacht: A yacht is stolen in the Caribbean and Winlink and other marine nets are mobilized to have it located. It was found within days after the theft.

  •     MR 48 - 11 Decenber 2003 -- Winlink announces new Winlink ground station in Canary Islands. It shows that even the smallest local amateur radio club can play an important role in providing a social and emergency service to the international community.

  •     MR 30 - 31 July, 2003 -- Winlink network now includes the Middle East: Despite the troubled international security situation and persistent piracy on the Red Sea, many cruisers continue to take this route from the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean. The addition of a Winlink station in the volatile Middle East is welcome. It speaks for the international cooperation among radio amateurs.

  •     MR 21 - 22 April 2003 -- About a Winlink Development Team Member - Vic Poor. Winlink comes from noble ancestry. An early pioneer of microchip development is the father of the first fledgling attempts to set up a Winlink system. Together with the support of other talent, many ex-Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, has led to the worldwide growth of Winlink.

Australia: Reform of Amateur Service Regulation

  •     Wireless Institute of Australia New President and other Supporters place the national WIA on the map. NSW (VK2) still holding out from joining the national organization. COMING SOON!

International: Reform of Amateur Service Regulation

  •     MR 44 - 6 November 2003 -- Winlink in Civil Defense - An example of the interface of Winlink with civil emergency and fire fighting operations in the state of California.

  •     MR 39 - 3 September 2003 -- Report by the ARRL Ad Hoc HF Committee: Winlink Development Team members play an important role in formulating ARRL policy in respect of digital data communication.

  •     MR 32 - 20 August, 2003 -- World Radiocommunications Conference: The WRC approved significant reforms to the international regulations that govern amateur radio. The reforms are a significant boost for supporting the more widespread introduction of Winlink in Australia. It would plug one of the last major voids on the Winlink world map.

  •     MR 23 - 11 May 2003 -- Foundation License Success in the UK: Amateur radio in Australia is withering on the vine. For years it has lost many participants and seems incapable of attracting young new talent into the hobby. The organization representing radio amateurs in Australia is lobbying for the introduction of the highly successful "Foundation" License for new entrants.

  •     MR 18 - 28 March 2003 -- FCC states new technologies (like Winlink) should be supported: Many countries, particularly the USA, accept the value and support Winlink operations. It are the regulators that created the enabling environment that encourage the growth of amateur radio.
